Monster Mash #11

Today's monster is the Gorgon Medusa, infamous and ill-fated monster of Greek mythology.
The mere sight of her turned men to stone.
When Perseus smote (which is a lot like cutting, but with a more manly elegance to it) off her head, Pegasus (a winged horse) was born out of her blood. and the future king of Iberia (later Spain and Portugal) was born from her neck. Pretty sure it's because she was pregnant with Poseidon's baby, or something soap opera like that.
Girl's got some baggage. Sooo... she get's her own scary day of remembrance.

  1. Love dees! Always great to see some classical mythology represented. XD Love the pics you have for her too!

Her image has come a long way... The first depictions of gorgons ever looked like this: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/178/466355047_7b811f4804.jpg (Eleusis amphora, 650 BC) Comical and a little sad at best. o.o
